Biography

Prof. Peyrin-Biroulet, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Unit at Nancy University Hospital in Nancy, France. Upon receiving his medical degree and PhD, he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at Lille University, Lille, France, in 2007, before taking a research position at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA (2008–2009). He received a Rising Star Award in 2008 from United European Gastroenterology (UEG).

 

Prof. Peyrin-Biroulet is the current President-elect of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) and Scientific Secretary of the International Organisation for the study of IBD (IOIBD). He is President of the Groupe d'Etude Thérapeutique des Affections Inflammatoires du Tube Digestif (GETAID) and Past-President of the Scientific Committee of the French association of IBD patients (AFA). He is past-Chair of the IBD Committee of the French Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SFED) and of the Clinical Trial Task Force at IOIBD. He was a member of the UEG Scientific Committee from 2011 to 2014.

 

Prof. Peyrin-Biroulet is co-founder of the Spectrum consortium and President of the IBD Cancer and Serious Infections in Europe (I-CARE) project. He has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed articles. He was an associate editor of Digestive and Liver Diseases (2013–2017) and has been an associate editor of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology since 2017. Additionally, Prof. Peyrin-Biroulet is a member of the editorial board of Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, Expert Review of Clinical Immunology and Gut.

Biography

Prof. Danese, MD, PhD, is Head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Centre in the Division of Gastroenterology and Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University, Milan, Italy. Prof. Danese trained in gastroenterology at Gemelli University Hospital, Rome, Italy, graduating with a PhD. From 2001 to 2004, he worked in Dr Claudio Fiocchi’s laboratory at the Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Prof. Danese is Past President of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) (2018–2020). He is a member of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE) and American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and is Secretary and Chair of the Clinical Trial Task Force of the International Organization for the study of IBD (IOIBD).

His main research area of interest is the investigation of the fundamental mechanisms underlying IBD pathogenesis, while his daily clinical activity is related to IBD service. He is actively involved in many international clinical trials in IBD and has published more than 900 papers in high-impact journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut and Journal of Clinical Investigation.
